… The blasted thing works again. Soooo frustrating.
For the help of others: it appears that if you have the Anticipate plugin by Elegant Themes active it stops any connection through to your site. Deactiveate it and yippee life resumes.
Chalk that one up to 10hrs wasted of my life:-)
